PIFF Announces Special Guests and Programming

The Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF) has announced its Excellence in Acting Award honoree this year will be Cynthia Nixon (Sex in the City). This award, along with the Filmmaker on the Edge Award, is given out each year in a special event at Provincetown Town Hall during the festival. Earlier this year, PIFF announced the Filmmaker on the Edge honoree is director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain, The Ice Storm). Nixon, a Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winner, will join Lee to accept their honors on Saturday, June 18, as part of the 18th edition of the festival.
In addition, the Festival announced its full lineup of feature and short films. The opening night (Wednesday, June 15) selection is Captain Fantastic directed by Matt Ross, which stars Viggo Mortensen as a reclusive, idealistic father forced to bring his children out into the “real world.” The closing night (Sunday, June 19) selection is the feature documentary Strike a Pose, which profiles the dancers in Madonna’s controversial 1990 world tour, and was directed by Ester Gould and Reijer Zwaan. Tickets are currently on sale and the schedule can be reviewed at ptownfilmest.org.
