Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum Announces that BOLD (Brian Orter Lighting Design) Has Joined Bradford Access Project Team
The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum (PMPM) announced the design lighting firm BOLD (Brian Orter Lighting Design) has joined the project team for the Bradford Access Project. BOLD will work with the other team members on the proposed funicular, or inclined elevator, that will connect the town to the PMPM property. BOLD is donating the equivalent of $84,000 of their fee towards the Bradford Access project and to other lighting projects at the PMPM. BOLD is a national award-winning lighting design firm founded by Brian Orter that offers the knowledge and experience of its top tier designers who have worked in theater, architecture and interior design.
“BOLD joins our talented team of professionals who are designing and building the Bradford Access Project,” said Dr. K. David Weidner, Executive Director of the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum. “We are truly grateful that BOLD is generously donating part of their fee as a way to show its commitment to the important funicular project that will finally connect Bradford Street to the Monument property.”
Brian Orter, owner of BOLD, said that his firm is looking forward to working on this project. With offices in New York City and Los Angeles, BOLD has designed the lighting for the landmark Beekman Hotel in Manhattan, several historic branches of the Free Library of Philadelphia, the future 9 Dekalb Tower (the tallest tower in Brooklyn) and significant hotels and resorts around the world.
The Bradford Access Project is in the process of review by various Provincetown regulatory boards and the expected start date is some time in 2018 with the goal of completing the project in 2019. Once the regulatory review process concludes and the design elements decided, a final budget for the project will be determined.

CERT Training at the Truro Library
The Truro Public Library invites you to join us for an introduction to Truro’s Community Emergency Response Team Program on Saturday, May 26, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The program will be presented by Joe Gordon, Emergency Management Director, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department, and Jennifer Rose, Truro CERT Director. Know Yourself Workshop Offered
Also at the Truro Library, author Gillian Drake (Know Yourself, Be Yourself: How to Identify the Aptitudes & Archetypes that Form the Structure of Your Soul and Frame Your Life’s Purpose) will lead a small workshop of up to 10 participants on May 30, June 13, or June 27, at 6 p.m. She will discuss her new book and her mission to help parents understand more fully who their children really are—beneficial not only for the personal happiness of the child and clarity about their future goals, but also for family harmony. We are all born on purpose, for a purpose, and have been endowed with the gifts and talents we need to fulfill this purpose. This gives us a unique personality, a “divine design,” with the result that we are very different from each other, probably more so than we might imagine. These differences can create great conflict, especially among family members, as many of us have found out. Conflicts and misunderstandings between family members can impact the entire family, causing pain, disappointment and shame. Self-knowledge is an important life tool, and understanding and accepting our differences can help us achieve harmony in all our relationships. Maybe your child is a Physical type, or a Nature type, or an Artistic type, or a Communicator, or an Intellectual, or a hard-to-identify Spiritual type. Learning just this one thing can help enormously in understanding how your child relates to the world and others in your family. Soup Kitchen In Provincetown Celebrates 25th Anniversary
The Soup Kitchen in Provincetown (SKIP) is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a benefit on Saturday, June 2, from 3 p.m. to 6 p. m., at Mac’s Fish House “Beach Bar,” 85 Shank Painter Road, in Provincetown.
One notable feature of the party will be a new photo-video exhibit on SKIP’s history. It will highlight SKIP founders, the soup kitchen’s venues through the years, its special events, and many of its dedicated volunteers.
The group’s archiving effort pays tribute to its founding members, including Edward Duff—who had the idea for SKIP—along with Diana Hardy and the late Betty Villari.
There will also be raffle tickets available for purchase. First prize includes a two-night fall stay donated by the Lands End Inn, meals at a number of local restaurants, and a bottle of champagne. Second prize will be two round-trip Provincetown-to-Boston tickets on Cape Air. The third prize is a wire basket of such items as a bottle of bubbly, champagne glasses, gourmet-food items, and a variety of products bearing the SKIP logo.
Appetizers for the event will include: Spicy Tuna Hand Rolls, Mini Crab Cakes, Goat Cheese Artichoke Fritters, Buffalo Monkfish Bites, and a cheese board. These will be served in the outdoor Beach Bar area at the front of Mac’s.
SKIP proudly meets its twin goals of alleviating hunger and providing a place of community to Provincetown-area residents. From a few dozen meals a day when it was founded, SKIP now serves upwards of 100 meals daily for a total of over 13,000 meals per season.
Admission of $25 includes hearty appetizers, anniversary cake, and a bubbly toast. (A cash bar will also be available.) Space is limited and reservations are strongly recommended.
