Shabbat in Ptown

Central Reform Temple of Boston, a progressive Jewish congregation located at 15 Newbury Street in the Back Bay, will once again offer a series of summer Sabbath Eve worship services in Provincetown, on Friday evenings, July 13 (5:30 PM) and August 17 (6:00 PM.) These inclusive, egalitarian celebrations in prayer and song, will be led by Rabbi Howard Berman and the congregation’s musicians, and will be held at the UU Meeting House, 236 Commercial Street, followed by an Oneg Shabbat social hour on the front lawn.

Central Reform Temple is the liberal Jewish presence in the center of Boston, and is active in the interfaith community and in the broader civic and social life of the city. With many members who are also residents of Provincetown, it has offered various programs here on the Outer Cape over the years, highlighted by these special monthly worship celebrations each summer.

Kalmar Nyckel in Provincetown Harbor

Have you ever experienced sailing on a Tall Ship? Kalmar Nyckel, the Queen of the Tall Ship fleet, will be sailing in Provincetown with morning and late afternoon sails from MacMillan Pier from July 15 – 29. Wind, water, and sun: the perfect combination of fun and relaxation in three great hours on the water!

You can be a passenger aboard this magnificent square-rigged full-scale replica of the armed merchant ship that brought Swedish settlers to North America in 1638. Kalmar Nyckel is offering two sails per day on Sundays, July 15 and 29, and Tuesday through Friday July 17 to 20 and July 24 to 27. Guests are invited to haul lines, set sails, and enjoy maritime tales of the original Kalmar Nyckel—or just bring along a picnic and beverages to enjoy a peaceful sail in the salt air. The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation is a nonprofit educational organization with the mission of preserving and promoting the cultural and maritime heritage of Delaware and the Delaware Valley for the education and enrichment of all. The Foundation is a volunteer-based organization that built, owns, and operates Kalmar Nyckel. The Tall Ship of Delaware is a present-day reproduction of the flagship from the 1638 expedition that founded the colony of New Sweden, establishing the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley.

New Trustees at the Pilgrim Monument

Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum (PMPM) announced today two new board trustees who were approved on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the 126th Annual Meeting of the Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial Association (CCPMA), the governing authority of the organization. The new Board Trustees are Brian Johnson and Charles Roberts. Board President Courtney K. Hurst and Trustee Arthur Parker were re-appointed to their respective roles.
The CCPMA is the oldest nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization on Cape Cod, established to commemorate the arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims in the New World as they landed in Provincetown Harbor in November of 1620 and signed the Mayflower Compact. The 11-member board of the organization’s mission is to showcase the history of Provincetown through its exhibitions and collections and to maintain the Pilgrim Monument, the symbol of freedom and democracy.

After the Annual Meeting, PMPM hosted a cocktail reception in the Museum for guests who attended the meeting to help the community kick off the summer season. The PMPM has more events planned this year than ever before and will continue to do so over the next few years as the organization gears up for the 400th anniversary celebration of the arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims to take place in 2020. The PMPM is also excited about the new Del Deo exhibit and Hat Sisters Case put together by Consulting Curator Samuel Tager.
