Contra Dance in Wellfleet
The monthly Outermost Contra Dances are back! Dances resume September 21 for their dance season. Come welcome them back!
For the first dance of the season Outermost Contra Dance welcomes back Providence-born-and-raised Rich Sbardella. Rich has been calling contra dances in New England for more than 25 years. He will lead the group through contras, squares, mixers, and fun family dances.
Local favorite dance fiddler, Amy Larkin, and husband Jonathan will provide lively music for fun dancing.
Contra dancing is the older cousin to the square dance. No fancy footwork needed – if you can walk, you can dance! All the dances are taught and called. If you’re new to contra dance, be sure to get in on the early dances for the basic moves. And don’t miss out on the welcoming and delicious potluck at 6 p.m.
Outermost Contra hosts traditional New England contra dances on the Outer Cape with live music every third Friday of each month. It is one of many contra dances on the Cape, and was organized in December of 2014. The contra dance is family friendly and welcomes dancers of all levels and is held at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main St. Community potluck at 6 p.m. Dance begins at 7 p.m. Suggested donation is $10. $20 maximum per group.
