Provincetown Portuguese Festival 2019 Silent Art Auction

Celebrate art and Portuguese culture this Sunday, May 5, 12 – 3:30 p.m. at the Red Inn with the Festival’s annual auction. Thre will be dancing and music, cash bar, and light fare for $15. The event will feature the work of Jerome Greene, who designed the 2019 Provincetown Portuguese Festival t-shirt. Truro Public Library Series to Focus on the Media

The Truro Public Library presents a series of discussion courses, “2020: How Can the News Media Regain Our Trust?” with veteran journalist Mike Berlin, on Wednesday, May 1, Tuesday, May 7, and Wednesday, May 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Today’s news media—in print, on the air, and online—are each experiencing a time of trauma and a shifting sense of mission. Is the technology of the Internet solely responsible for the financial crisis engulfing most news media? Is media bias new, or has it always been there? What is the impact of the media crisis on politics and the 2020 election in particular? What can—and should—be done? This is not a lecture course. Mr. Berlin will hand out a broad course outline at the first meeting, and offer a range of factual information as a basis for group discussion, with everyone free to participate.

Mike Berlin was a reporter covering the UN and international news for over 20 years for the New York Post and Washington Post. He is an associate professor of journalism emeritus at Boston University, where he taught for more than 15 years. He was also a Fulbright lecturer in China and Russia. He now lives in Truro, where he is working on a mystery novel/memoir set at the UN.

Celebrate Cape Cod’s Independent Bookstores

Follow the Cape Cod & Islands Bookstore Trail to discover a treasure trove of new and used bookstores from Sandwich to Falmouth to Provincetown, Martha’s Vineyard to Nantucket.
The program, which launched on Independent Bookstore Day, Saturday, April 27, continues through October 31, 2019. The goal of the Trail is to highlight the unique and diverse array of independent bookstores on Cape Cod and the Islands.

Twenty independent bookstores (and counting!) will participate in the Trail, including Books By the Sea in Centerville, Booksmith/Musicsmith in Orleans, Brewster Bookstore in Orleans, Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven, East End Books in Provincetown, Eight Cousins Books in Falmouth, A Great Yarn in Chatham, Herridge Books in Wellfleet, I Cannot Live Without Books in West Dennis, Isaiah Thomas Books & Prints in Cotuit, Main Street Books in Orleans, Market Street Bookshop in Mashpee, Mitchell’s Book Corner and Nantucket Bookworks on Nantucket, Parnassus Book Service in Yarmouthport, Provincetown Bookshop in Provincetown, Reed Books in Harwich Port, Titcomb’s Bookshop in East Sandwich, Wellfleet Booksmith in Wellfleet, Where the Sidewalk Ends Bookshop and Children’s Annex in Chatham, and Yellow Umbrella Book in Chatham.
