Tucked away around the corner of Standish and Bradford streets, there lies a cozy hideaway by the name of Mistralino Ristorante. Owned for four years now by Matt Tumminello and Dominick Marangi (who previously worked as an employee at the restaurant under its former owners), the small, homestyle-Italian venue is pleasantly removed from the chaos of Commercial Street. Tumminello says he wants the restaurant to feel “like a party”—that’s what it’s all about for him and Marangi. The two hope to create “a moment of laughter in people’s lives, [even] when everything is crazy.”
The menu is intentionally simple: classic Italian dishes like chicken parmigiana, penne а la vodka, and veal piccata. Tumminello and Marangi seek to provide a dining experience that is refined, comfortable, and classy, allowing diners to get away from the bubbly energy of Commecial Street.
But Mistralino is clearly nowhere near ordinary. Just look at the walls, adorned with decorative dinner plates, many featuring signatures of past patrons, including big names like Kathleen Turner. Purchased from the Provincetown United Methodist Church’s thrift store, which operates the Soup Kitchen In Provincetown (SKIP), the plates cover the interior of the restaurant, a reminder of its values and commitment to promoting equity. Restaurant-goers can sign a plate in exchange for a contribution to SKIP, helping to provide meals to those who need it most.
More than anything else, Mistralino Ristorante is down-to-earth in their attitude, their outlook, and their cuisine. So if you like your food to keep it real and keep it classy, Mistralino is the place for you.
