The Broad’s Way 2: Electric Boobaloo

Review by Steve Desroches

They’re baaaaacccckkkkk! The drag duo of Ginger Minj and Gidget Galore made waves last year with the smash hit comedy musical drag show The Broad’s Way and now they’ve landed on the shores of Provincetown once again ready for more with The Broad’s Way 2: Electric Boobaloo. And once again the drag pals present an evening full of laughs and gags ensconced in a wonderfully crafted cabaret featuring glitz and glamour as well as two powerhouse voices in this all-live-singing extravaganza.

Much like the first, The Broad’s Way 2 is a playful prance down the Great White Way as the two continue to hope to grab the eye of big-time producers who might be in the audience (a sometimes very real phenomenon in Provincetown). But this jaunt down Broadway features all new source material and thus fresh spoofs, satire, and sass. The result is 100 percent pure entertainment from start to finish as Ginger and Gidget each give a 120-watt performance. One of the best aspects of The Broad’s Way 2 is the electric chemistry between the two stars as it is palpable how much fun Ginger and Gidget are having while the sweat on their respective brows is evidence to how hard they are working. They are consummate professionals and performers with immense talent proven by how easy they make it all look. They present the show with the intensity of The Mystery of Irma Vep, the rapid-fire Charles Ludlam two-person play (The two would be perfectly cast in a revival). The sheer number of costume changes, vocal acrobatics, and crowd work presents a delightfully dizzying quality to a top notch drag show.

Ginger first arrived in Provincetown in 2021, quickly finding her niche in the crowded and competitive drag field along Commercial Street. She is of course best known for her appearance on season seven of RuPaul’s Drag Race as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars and appearances in films and television specials like Dumplin’, Hocus Pocus 2, the stand-up comedy show, Ginger Minj: Bless Your Heart, and the Halloween variety show Huluween Dragstravaganza. All testament to her talent and to where appearing on Drag Race can take you. Gidget has not made it into the hot pink work room of the pop culture phenomenon, but as is often said on the show, don’t just be a Drag Race fan, be a fan of all drag. Gidget’s performance is clear evidence that not all major drag talents will appear on RuPaul’s main stage as she is every bit the star that Ginger is. And as a team, Ginger and Gidget are on to something big as you can’t fake or even learn that kind of stage camaraderie. It’s organic. They are an absolute joy to watch, and here’s hoping for a Broad’s Way 3.

Ginger Minj and Gidget Galore present The Broad’s Way 2: Electric Boobaloo Wednesdays through Saturdays at the Art House, 214 Commercial St., Provincetown through September 14, 8 p.m. Tickets ($40/$65) are available at the box office and online at liveatthearthouse.com
