Helltown Burlesque

review by Mia Phillips

Provincetown’s vibrant arts scene finds its pinnacle in Helltown Burlesque, a premier show that features a diverse array of acts. Created and produced by Spookey, the show is a perfect blend of singing, dancing, comedy, burlesque, drag, and even acrobatics, all wrapped in a playful package.

Five performers take the stage over the course of the show’s hour-long runtime, each bringing their own unique style, keeping the experience fresh and engaging for audiences.

The night kicks off with Spookey, who captivates the audience with his unique blend of burlesque and daring acrobatics. His performance is as polished as his intricate costumes, and complements his aura that dances between powerful and seductive. Spookey grabs the audience’s attention from the moment he starts the show, straddling the line between burlesque and acrobatics, Spookey demonstrates that he knows exactly what he’s doing.

Luxx Liaison, the drag queen and emcee of the event, brings sharp wit and hilarious banter to the show. Their opening performance, inspired by the horror movie M3GAN, is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Her dancing abilities defy the laws of gravity and are well rehearsed and choreographed, making her a perfect addition to the lineup. Apart from her performance abilities, she also keeps the audience entertained between sets with her shocking yet light-hearted interactions with the crowd. Her quick wit keeps the audience on their toes, and ensures there is never a dull moment.

The Dutchess of Sandwich embodies the essence of classic burlesque with two sultry routines that prove her mastery in the art of tease. Her performances are a nod to the traditional art form, executed with poise and confidence. The Dutchess brings a timeless elegance to the show, reminding the audience of the enduring allure of burlesque.

Hilarie Tamar delivers two vocal performances that are nothing short of spectacular. Her powerful voice and emotional delivery add a moving element to the evening, creating moments of pure musical magic. Her song choices and mashup capabilities make her an event standout.

Last but not least is Femme Bruleé, whose burlesque routine set to Britney Spears’ “Piece of Me” is a playful delight. Stripping down in a pizza-themed costume, her routine is well-polished and rehearsed. She mingles between humor and sexiness with perfection, and is able to channel Britney the way she leaves the crowd wanting more. After this performance, you’ll never listen to “Piece of Me” the same way again

Helltown Burlesque is a celebration of diversity, talent, and the art of burlesque in its many forms. With Spookey at the helm and a cast of Provincetown’s finest performers, this revue offers a sexy, inclusive, and thoroughly entertaining journey that keeps audiences coming back for more.

Helltown Burlesque is performed Saturdays at 9 p.m. through November 1 (except October 19 when it’s at 10 p.m.) at the Post Office Cabaret, 303 Commercial St., Provincetown. For tickets ($40 VIP/$35 General) and information call 508.487.0008 or visit postofficecafe.net.
