Women Innkeepers of Provincetown and True Colors Fund Form Partnership

The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown is thrilled to announce its partnership with Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund in an effort to raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth homelessness. The Women Innkeepers of Provincetown will produce several events throughout the year benefiting the True Colors Fund. Events include an online auction of Provincetown lodging and attractions, hosted by Charitybuzz, with all proceeds benefitting the True Colors Fund. The auction runs throughout this month and can be viewed online at charitybuzz.com/truecolorsinptown.

The True Colors Fund works to end homelessness among LGBT youth, creating a world in which young people can be their true selves. The True Colors Fund is focused on raising public awareness, advocating within government, conducting research, working collaboratively with young people, and organizing communities to develop solutions to prevent and end LGBT youth homelessness.

Library’s Heritage Day Focuses on The Great Provincetown Summer of 1916

The Provincetown Board of Library Trustees will celebrate our community’s rich history on the evening of Tuesday, June 14 with the 2016 Heritage Day Celebration. This year’s event will feature engaging presentations, focused on the 100-year anniversary of the “Great Provincetown Summer,” by esteemed guests Bill Evaul and Sam Tager., The summer of 1916 is widely known for establishing Provincetown as the largest and most influential art colony in the world and the birthplace of the modern American theater. Bohemians leaving the summer heat of New York City and radicals fleeing World War I in Europe joined writers, artists and others in the tiny town at land’s end. Provincetown has since continued to be a famous haven for artistic freedom and expression, leading to the town’s designation as the “world’s longest continuous art colony.”

Evaul is a painter and printmaker who studied at Syracuse University, the Whitney Museum, and Pratt Institute with Jacob Landau and George McNeil. A Provincetown artist since 1970, Evaul will give a presentation on the history and process behind his now famous specialty: the white-line woodcut. Evaul’s article “The Provincetown Printers: Genesis of a Unique Woodcut Tradition” is credited with helping to revive this obscure and nearly lost technique. Tager, currently the assistant director and senior designer at the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture, has been designing, developing, and installing museum exhibitions for 25 years. He will speak about his most recent project, “The Great Provincetown Summer – 1916” on display at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum this season.
The Provincetown Public Library 2016 Heritage Day Celebration is a free event open to all visitors and community members. The program begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14 in the Marc Jacobs Reading Room on the Library’s Main Level.
