“Each piece Sims makes is unique, and while she enjoys working within a series or theme, no two pieces will ever be the same.”
Julie Simms opened Nap in May 2017, but the gallery was a long time in the making, as she spent the last few years developing her quilt creations in Provincetown. She initially tried a pop-up version at the former Gallery Voyeur space, which gave her the opportunity to test the waters for a quilt shop in Provincetown. The test went well, and she’s now fulltime at the site of the former Lovinger Gallery. Each piece Sims makes is unique, and while she enjoys working within a series or theme, no two pieces will ever be the same. She currently has a two-tone pillow set that offers customers an affordable price for a handmade piece. “Whether it’s a simple piece or something more complex, I love indulging in color and fabric,” says Simms. She also enjoys meeting the people who wander in…and occasionally provide inspiration for new pieces! “Of all the professions I have been involved in, this is the work that takes me right back to where I apparently should be,” says Sims. “It takes me back to the same joy I experienced as a fifth grade kid and beyond, making my own clothing.”
