John Gainey’s family established Yardarm Liquors in 1975, and 20 years ago he left corporate sales (in beer, of course) to take the helm of both the Provincetown location and its sister store, Pamet Valley Liquors in Truro. Yardarm stocks it all—beer, liquor, wine—with wine quickly becoming its biggest seller. Two years ago Gainey established the “wine tables,” and the response has been phenomenal. “There’s a national trend connected to rosés,” he says. “People finally understood that it isn’t the same as white Zinfandel, it’s drier—we stock 47 different kinds of rosé now!” The Yardarm handles lots of special requests—“our access is pretty much unlimited”—so feel free to ask for what you want!
