“Open since 1932, the shop is truly every reader’s dream store, with nooks and crannies for finding unexpected treasures.”
In an age where small, independent booksellers are going the way of the dodo, the Provincetown Bookshop survives—and shines. Open since 1932, the shop is truly every reader’s dream store, with nooks and crannies for finding unexpected treasures. It features the best collection of Cape Cod books anywhere, with fiction and nonfiction from local writers, tourism books, insights on local Provincetown artists and writers, art and photography books about the Outer Cape, and even children’s titles relating to the area… including titles celebrating and addressing the situation of kids with same-sex parents.
But it’s not just about Cape Cod. You’ll find a deep collection of fiction, current and past NYT bestsellers, a generous kids’ area, some serious nonfiction, LGBTQ titles, and more. In March they moved “into the 21st century” and got rid of its long-cherished card catalogue. The bookshop celebrates literary awards (as well as the awards that should have been given), in an eclectic mix of the expected and totally unexpected. There are also great souvenirs here, too, including amazing postcards available nowhere else, and other memorabilia.
The Provincetown Bookshop supports and showcases local authors, participates in local events, and is in every way the Cape Cod bookstore for visitors and residents alike. Stop by and let them know that you support local independent booksellers!
